unison

Description

If we'd install unison on the CD and store the config on a volume one could use unison-gtk (or rsync) to synchronize files with the Box. Unisons GUIs are available for the main OSes, so this could additionally be used to samba.

but wouldn't this imply, that users would store the synchronized local working copy without encryption (on their desktop machine)?

Indeed I was assuming, that people already have the files on their desktop machines and want to store them on the box. So hopefully they have an encrypted fs on the desktop too.

Guess it's the same with samba shares. Can't imagine someone who's working only over LAN and if so, chances are high that the local machine caches or does some other nasty unencrypted things.

But at least for me unison is a good alternative to samba, dav etc.

for me it sounds like a possible, but not very likely situation - I do not think, that there are a lot of users of the CryptoBox, who are able to (and actually really do) encrypt the files on their desktop machines

For me personally, this would be a very, very low priority feature :)

This needs an ssh server on the live-CD and a ssh user with write access to the mountpoint. Don't know yet how to handle different users/pws with changing containers..
