Description

I'd like "enLock" or "cripher" (from crypt and cipher) as new names.

I also thought about a possible client proggy, so my router (a small box with included dsl modem and running a minimalistic linux // you know avm's fritzbox?) with very low computing power (it's clocked with 125 MHz) could serve encrypted data from a usb-connected storage directly (encrypted - useless for others - over tcpip) to the network client where - with much better computing power - it could be decrypted. this - by using the ntfs capability of "freenas" - could also provide user-related shares so an encrypted vpn-connection would be unnecessary. many others could probably find this very useful, too.

I'm waiting for an answer.

thanks for your name suggestions: I added them to the current list (wiki:NameProposals)

regarding your client program suggestion: I am not sure, if I completely understand how this should be done.

That's how I understood it:

  • device A: your router with an attached usb drive containing encrypted data
  • device B: a freenas server makes the encrypted data available as a network share
  • device C: your desktop computer connects to the network share to work with the data

I know - this scenario does not completely fit to your description, but I did not know, where else to put the "freenas" service ...

maybe you could clarify your proposal? thanks!
